Breaking the Federal Grip By Nicholas C. Dranias
Summary: Wyoming, as with many states, is enmeshed in a fiscal dynamic in which federal grants-in-aid inflate local demand for government services that bear little or no relation to local priorities or resources, thereby contriving constituencies gratuitously dependent on federal programs. Combined with federal mandates, these grants create pernicious incentives whereby elected state officials come to believe that the political stakes are too high to make necessary cuts in state-funding for federal programs. Fortunately, Wyoming is well-positioned to free itself from funded federal mandates.

The Decline of Free Speech in the McCain-Feingold EraBy Ben Barr, JD Summary: Before the United States Supreme Court this term is a challenge to the speechâ€censoring of the Federal Election Commission. The Court will address a simple question: Whether citizens may freely produce a documentary movie with accompanying publicity critical of then presidential challenger Hillary Clinton. Facing the fear of prosecution for distributing the film and its ads, Citizens United filed suit against the Commission. Since free speech is the effective guardian of every other right enjoyed by our citizenry, the Wyoming Liberty Group supported Citizens United in this effort. The purpose of its brief is to demonstrate the inherent unworkable nature of anything less than absolute protection for free speech.
