01. Wyoming’s Open Records & Open Meeting Laws: An Introduction to the Law and Online Research. This course will cover the basics of Wyoming’s Open Meetings and Open Records laws and how to use to find various public documents. It will include what the law actually says, legal cases and presidents and strategies for effective use of the law. Each Participant will be given a copy of the law to take home for reference. In addition to covering the law, it will also include an overview of several useful Websites where various information has been compiled can be easily found. These sites include opensecrets.org, http://legisweb.state.wy.us, http://soswy.state.wy.us, ballotpedia.org and others. Anthony McConnell was born and raised in Cody, WY. He has degrees in photography, print journalism and speech communications. Before joining the staff of the Wyoming Liberty Group he was self employed as a portrait and wedding photographer and worked at the Cody Enterprise covering city government, district and municipal courts and the West Park Hospital District. 02.Teaching vs. Training: A Matter of Education in Civil Society. A course that looks at the flaws of the public education system as well as it’s alternatives. This course will focus specifically on what should be learned and taught by a civil society vs. a government run institution. As citizen’s how can we assume responsibility to educate ourselves on important topics? What are these important areas? This class will be an introduction into looking at these issues. Jillee Vega was born and raised in Scottsbluff, NE. She came to Wyoming in 2003 where she studied and received a degree in Business Management in December of 2009. Since then she has moved to Cheyenne to join with the Wyoming Liberty Group. Before changing to Business, Jillee was a Music Education major and still has a deep love of the fine arts. 03.Healthcare Freedom Amendment for the Wyoming Constitution. The U. S. Congress has passed health care legislation that threatens private health care options and in fact penalizes health care choices. In a January 2010 poll, Terrance Associates found that 85% of Wyoming voters polled want to make their own health care decisions. Yet in the 2010 Session the Wyoming Legislature failed to marshal the 2/3 vote required to allow the issue to be included on the 2010 ballot. This presentation will address frequently asked questions about health care freedom in anticipation of its introduction to the 2011 Session. Susan Gore started Wyoming Liberty Group in 2008 as a voice for Wyoming's founding principles of a lively, robust, responsible citizenry served by an efficient and responsive government that observes boundaries proper to it. 04.How to Lobby Bills in Wyoming. This is a three hour class on how to lobby bills in the Wyoming legislature. Topics covered include the unique way a “citizen legislature” deals with lobbyists, how to lobby during the interim, how to build coalitions for your idea or bill, how to approach and address legislators during the session and outside of the session, the influence of party caucus, and several other topics. A specialty of lobbying in Wyoming is the direct access you can have to legislators, party leaders, and the Elected Officials. There are “unwritten procedures” on how to lobby in Wyoming. Come learn the path and the process to getting your bills passed. Charles Ware handles Legislative Affairs for the Wyoming Liberty Group. He has fifteen years experience working as a lobbyist in Wyoming. He lobbied at the national level while he was Chairperson for the National Association of Workforce Boards in 2006. He has been with the Wyoming Liberty Group for over a year. 05. Your Rights: Use ’Em or Lose ‘Em. How should you act in an encounter with a police officer? Are you required to show an officer ID? Should you give permission to search your car if he asks for it? The class includes a screening of “10 Rules for Dealing with Police”, narrated by trial lawyer William “Billy” Murphy, Jr. At some presentations, a Wyoming defense attorney will be present to take questions. The audience is anyone who may deal with police, including educators, parents, police trainers, attorneys, and ordinary citizens. Charles Curley has lived in Thermopolis for more than ten years, where he earns his living as a software engineer and writer. His successes in politics include getting legislation to allow Americans to own gold through Congress. 06. Economic Freedom: What is Economic Freedom? How Can It Be Accomplished? Preserved? Expanded? Sven Larson, PhD research on health policy, taxes and government budgeting and entitlement reform has been published by several free-market think tanks, including the Heritage Foundation, Civitas Institute, South Carolina Policy Council and the Wyoming Liberty Group. He has also provided his expertise in radio and TV interviews. He holds a Ph.D. in social sciences with major in economics and has taught economics at colleges in three different countries. 07. a) Wolves in Wyoming. A course that looks at history of the wolf in Wyoming, how wolves were brought to Wyoming via the US Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS), the Wyoming Legislature’s involvement, disease, cost, interaction of other states including Montana, Idaho, Oregon and Washington, the Wolf Management Committee and a possible future for grey wolves (Canis lupis) in the West. 2 hours b) How Green Energy Affects Jobs and More. This course will look at how green energy affects jobs, the economy and private property rights. There are implications for tax payers, land owners, the specialty job market, direct and indirect impacts, and the price of power in a retooled green economy. As with other power sources, it is necessary to consider how to deliver the power to destinations outside Wyoming. 2 hours 08. Proper Role of Government Topics a) America the Greatest Nation. The United States has become the greatest nation this earth has known. Discover what the Founders did that resulted in our freedom and prosperity. b) Overview of the Constitution. Understand what each Article of the Constitution establishes and the principles behind what the Founder included that made this nation great and free. c) The Proper Role of Government. Why are Governments created? What is the Proper Role of Government? What are our rights before governments are established? Do we lose rights when Government is created? Are Collective rights greater than Individual rights? d) What Form of Government Do You Have? Why? Explore and understand the various forms of government. How do we evaluate forms of government? Learn why the Founders chose the government we have in this country. e) Free Market - The Economic Dimensions of Liberty. What is a Free Market or Free Enterprise? How does it work? An experience with socialism and planned economies. This presentation provides an understandable approach to economics, taxes, inflation, banking, and the federal reserve. f) The Constitutional Structure for Balanced and Limited Government. From where does the power of government originate? How does the Constitution establish the separation of powers to check the tendencies of men to seek power? What are Vertical Separation of Powers? How did the Founders create a balanced government? Why did they limit the national government? g) The Responsibilities and Limitations of Each Branch of Government. By careful examination of the Constitution understand the responsibilities delegated to and limitations set upon each branch of government. h) Trial by Jury - The Constitution's Protection for Our Individual Rights. In this presentation we will explore what the Constitution says about equality before the law, the people’s protection from tyranny through trial by jury, grand juries, habeas corpus and privacy rights. The main theme will be the importance of a trial by jury as a check on the law. i) Preserving Liberty - Getting Involved. In order to preserve our liberty we must be educated and committed to understanding the principles of our Constitution, the principles of freedom and good government; then we must put out understanding into action? So now I understand what do I do? j) Why Do We Need the Constitution? Isn’t the Constitution outdated? Doesn’t Democracy work? What is it about the Constitution that is so important? k) Separation of Church and State. What was the real meaning of the separation of Church and State? l) Checks and Balances. Explore the elaborate set of Checks and Balances established by the Founders of our nation, used to curb the abuse of power in our central government. m) Liber – Being Educated for Liberty. In ancient Greece being Liber meant you had a Liberal Education, i.e., you had an education that prepared you to preserve your liberty. The Founders of our nation also received this type of education. Receiving a Thomas Jefferson education should be the goal of every American citizen. Vern Cox obtained a bachelors degree in psychology from Southern Utah State University. He then taught high school learning disabilities for four years. He then received a master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at the University of Wisconsin followed by a Ph.D. in the same field at Brigham Young University. After graduating, Vern worked at a mental health center in western Wyoming. After 10 years as a psychotherapist he was appointed as the executive director where he worked for the next 13 years. Over the last 10 years Vern studied the Constitution and principles of freedom. He started teaching classes to others because of his concern for our loss of our freedoms. Last year he joined the Wyoming Liberty Group. Vern and Joyce, his wife, are the parents of eight children. Benjamin Barr, JD leads the Wyoming Liberty Group's sovereignty project and is available to speak to issues of federalism, sovereignty, and how Wyoming can regain local control. Areas of focus involved in this topic include: · winning litigation strategies against the federal government, · debunking pessimism of state sovereignty, · and how Wyoming can establish itself as a leader and innovator in this field. Barr has significant experience litigating First Amendment cases and lectures on the importance of free speech, especially in the political arena. He is available to discuss the importance of civil associations, the meaning of the Supreme Court's recent opinion in Citizens United (in which the Wyoming Liberty Group played an active role), and why less campaign finance "reform" could help Wyoming win its fight for autonomy.
